Message from the President

Distinguished Members and Esteemed Partners of IPPAN, It is with deep honour, humility, and a profound sense of responsibility that I assume the Presidency of the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN). I extend my sincere gratitude to all members for the trust and confidence they have placed in me to represent Nepal’s independent power producers at this consequential moment for our sector.

Nepal stands at an inflection point in its energy journey. The development of hydropower and renewable energy is far more than an exercise in electricity generation — it is the foundation upon which economic growth, industrial transformation, energy security, employment, and long-term national prosperity will be built. The decisions and actions we take as an industry in the years ahead will shape this trajectory in lasting ways.

My professional journey has been closely and continuously associated with Nepal’s energy sector for nearly two decades. I have had the privilege of contributing across the full development cycle — from project conceptualisation and planning through construction and commercial operation.

My direct engagement in hydropower development began with the founding of Terhathum Power Company Limited, where I served as Founder and lead investor. Under my leadership, the Upper Khorunga Khola Small Hydropower Project (7.5 MW) was successfully commissioned within the targeted timeframe and budget. Its cascade project, the Khorunga-Tangmaya Khola Small Hydropower Project (2 MW), is currently under development. Beyond this founding initiative, my portfolio encompasses a range of projects at various stages: Upper Solu Khola Hydropower Project (19.8 MW), developed by Beni Hydropower Company Pvt. Ltd. and currently in operation; Dana Khola Hydropower Project (49.95 MW) under Lalupate Hydropower Company Ltd.; Super Dona Khola Hydropower Project (60 MW) under Dona Lake Hydropower Company Pvt. Ltd.; and Pelma Khola Hydropower Project (75 MW) and Upper Sani Bheri Hydropower Project (90 MW) under Pelma Hydropower Company Pvt. Ltd.

My commitment to Nepal’s clean energy future extends beyond hydropower. Through Jhapa Energy Limited, I am engaged in solar energy development — reflecting a conviction that Nepal’s energy transition must be diversified, resilient, and forward-looking.

As President of IPPAN, my vision is to further strengthen this Association as a unified, influential, and solution-oriented institution — one that gives credible and effective voice to the aspirations of independent power producers. Our priorities will include fostering a stable and investment-friendly policy environment, accelerating project implementation, advancing energy export frameworks, promoting renewable energy diversification, and deepening collaboration among government, the private sector, financial institutions, and development partners.
I acknowledge with respect and appreciation the contributions of previous IPPAN leaderships, whose sustained dedication has established this Association as a trusted platform for policy advocacy and industry coordination. It is upon this solid foundation that we must now build — with renewed ambition, greater institutional capacity, and a sharper focus on outcomes that matter to our members and to Nepal.

The opportunities before us are substantial. Nepal’s renewable energy potential remains largely untapped, and the regional and global appetite for clean energy has never been greater. With collaboration, strategic thinking, and a shared sense of purpose, we can transform this potential into a genuine engine of national development.
I look forward to working with all members, government counterparts, financial institutions, and regional partners as we advance together toward a more robust energy sector and a prosperous, sustainably powered Nepal.
Thank you for your trust and your continued commitment to this shared mission.

Mohan Kumar Dangi
President
