At a time when when the country is in deep need of hydropower projects to address the growing power demand, construction work of Ramechhap-based Lekhu IV project has been halted since July, 2011.
The project was started four years ago with a plan to complete within four-and-a-half years.
According to Lekhu IV ‘s Public Relation Officer Nandu Sharma, donation drive was one of the main reseans behind the halting of construction work. He said the resumption was uncertain.
As a result, the construction of a power house at Saipu VDC and Bimire track has also remained in limbo. Engineer Nirajan Khadka said around 50 percent work on the road has already been completed.According to project staff, the project was started at an estimated cost of around Rs 900 million to generate 53W electricity.
